Have you avoided half-round windows or other radius situations because you couldn't find a molding to follow the radius? I know I did. But I shouldn't have and neither should you. ResinArt East, Inc., has produced flexible moldings since 1968. First developed for the furniture industry, the DuraFlex brand has been tested in residential and commercial markets for some time now with excellent results. DuraFlex is a flexible composite trim molding that encourages creativity. Whether the molding is placed in a concave curve, convex curve, or radius, it holds its profile with no distortion whatsoever (Figure 8-16). This dense product has the weight of oak and it cuts like wood, but it smells like fiberglass resin.

The color is consistent all the way through and there's no need for a primer coat. It can be painted as well as stained. The manufacturer claims the product is impervious to insects, and once installed, can withstand any harsh environment, including salt air, extreme heat, high humidity, and severe cold without the warping, cracking, and rot frequently associated with wood. ResinArt East offers a variety of profiles, and they'll make you custom profiles if you want a particular design they don't offer. In addition to moldings, they also sell architectural accessories like corbels, ceiling medallions, stair brackets, capitals, and keystones.
